Mass Outflows from Accretion Disks: Old and New Challenges
نویسنده
چکیده
We summarize recent developments in modeling of mass outflows from accretion disks in AGN. We illustrate how the hydrodynamical and magnetohydrodynamical wind structures revealed in numerical simulations relate to observations. Important results from the numerical simulations include: no shielding from X-rays is needed to radiatively launch a wind from the inner disk; shielding is needed to accelerate the wind to high velocities. Disk winds launched magnetically seem to be too dense to be accelerated by line driving. It appears that we have an all or nothing situation for radiation-driving: radiation driving has to be responsible for both launching and accelerating the wind or a wind launched by some other mechanism must have a very finely tuned density in order to be accelerated by radiation driving to velocities as high as measured in BAL QSOs.

Effect of the temperature profile of the accretion disk on the structure of jets and outflows around protostars
Magnetic fields play an important role in creating, driving, and in the evolution of outflows and jets from protostars and accretion disks. On the other hand, the temperature profile of the accretion disks may also affect the structure of the magnetic field and outflows. In this paper, we use the self-similar method in cylindrical coordinates to investigate the effect of the temperature profile...
متن کاملThe Role of Thermal Conduction in Accretion Disks with Outflows
In this work we solve the set of hydrodynamical equations for accretion disks in the spherical coordinates (r,θ,ϕ) to obtain the explicit structure along θ direction. We study a two-dimensional advective accretion disc in the presence of thermal conduction. We find self-similar solutions for an axisymmetric, rotating, steady, viscous-resistive disk. We show that the global structure of an advec...
متن کاملMagnetohydrodynamic Origin of Jets from Accretion Disks
A review is made of recent magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) theory and simulations of origin of jets from accretion disks. Many compact astrophysical objects emit powerful, highly-collimated, oppositely directed jets. Included are the extra galactic radio jets of active galaxies and quasars, and old compact stars in binaries, and emission line jets in young stellar objects. It is widely thought that t...
متن کاملLaunching of Poynting Jets from Accretion Disks
The jets observed to emanate from many compact accreting objects may arise from the twisting of the magnetic field threading a differentially rotating accretion disk which acts to magnetically extract angular momentum and energy from the disk. Two main regimes have been discussed, hydromagnetic outflows, which have a significant mass flux and have energy and angular momentum carried by both mat...
متن کاملThe radial effective temperature distribution of steady-state, mass-losing accretion disks
Mass loss appears to be a common phenomenon among disk-accreting astrophysical systems. An outflow emanating from an accretion disk can act as a sink for mass, angular momentum and energy and can therefore alter the dissipation rates and effective temperatures across the disk. Here, the radial distributions of dissipation rate and effective temperature across a Keplerian, steady-state, mass-los...
